More Than A Memory

I have a lot of memories built up in my brain, but the one that stands out to me the most is when my cousin Tanner, and I snuck out of the house for the first time. It was a summer night and I was over at my cousins house dinging around in the shop with him and my uncle....he's a farmer so he has a lot of useless junk that's fun for a kid to rummage through. It was getting late so my aunt called my mom and said that I was just going to sleep over for the night. It was probably about 11pm and we were told to go to bed...being 10 years old and we both have a severe case of ADHD that was nearly impossible. We both lay in bed thinking of how fun it would be to go outside and drive the brand new go-cart that I had just got for my 10th birthday...it didn't have any headlights so now when I think about it today it sounds really dumb but we were some pretty goofy and daring kids so we didn't care. Anyways, we decided to go for it and try to get out without my uncle hearing us...we proceed to crawl down the stairs, but being its an old farm house every step you take the floor creeks in return. We made it down the stairs and out the back door. It was amazing he didn't hear us!! Little did we know he had heard us and was watching us out the upstairs window the whole time...we jumped in the go-cart and took off for the path in the woods that lead to our grandparents house. We walked, ran, and drove that path a bunch of times a day...so with no head lights it wasn't a real big concern. We made it to our grandparents lot and all we had to do is stay out of the way of our grandmas HUGE metal clothes line polls. During all of this crazyness my uncle had gotten on the phone with my grandpa and told him to watch out the patio window because we were coming thru his back yard and he told him to stop us because we were supposed to be in bed. As soon as we drove to about the middle of the yard our grandpa turns on a huge deer shiner spot light....not only did it scare the living hell out of us, but it also blinded us and we wrapped my brand new go-cart around the poll. He ran down to us to see if we were allright and we were, but just really scared for the consequences of our actions. He told us to get inside and get to bed because my uncle was mad as hell...the next day we woke up and ran outside to see the damage of the go-cart....but it was gone!!! Apparently, my grandpa brought it in to get fixed. I couldn't wait to get it back and rampage thru the country side in it. About a week later I saw him driving down the long gravel road that lead to his back shed...my cousin and I ran to him as he was getting the go-cart out of the back of his pick-up and he told us "get the heck out of here the go-cart is off limits for the rest of the summer"....I was devistated. He chained it up ironically to the clothes line poll and told us not to touch it. I cried and cried for the rest of the day....I was grandpas little girl so that rule lasted about 3 hours and he unchained it and gave it back to me.
